Protect Your Eyes

As far as I can remember my mom always wore sunglasses. We lived in sunny Miami, Florida so I didn't really think it was big deal. In my teenage years I really loved wearing sunglasses. They were always a great accessory. Girls just love to accessorize and I was no exception. Again never really thinking about if it were beneficial for my eyes.
Over the years my husband pokes fun of the variety of sunglasses that I own. He doesn't understand why I have so many (which I don't). But now I have acquired some knowledge , thanks to The Vision Council, that can help my argument and probably change my husband's view on sunglasses.
If you follow me on Instagram I have a variety of pictures of my daughter and I. And majority of them are of us wearing sunglasses. She has a bigger collection that I do and she is only three!
Without me realizing it I am creating good habits for my daughter which will protect her for the future.
Just by simply having her wear sunglasses.
You might be asking why are protecting your eyes so important?
It's highly important more for children from infant age till they are 18 years old to protect their eyes since their eyes are not fully developed yet. The reason being that children receive THREE times the annual adult dose of UV radiation since their eyes are not fully developed
In a mature eye, behind the iris there is a lens which filter out the UV but children under 18 years old don't have this fully developed.

Before I had my daughter and even after I always thought it was funny that stores would sell sunglasses for infants/children. Always perceived it was a way to have parents fall into "oh so cute" trap to spend money on them. Little did I know at the time that there was a purpose for them!
I know I am emphasizing to protect your children's eyes but you, as an adult, have to protect your eyes as well. There are short term and long term vision problems that are due to not protecting your eyes.
In the short term you have things such as  Photokeratitis (fancy word for sunburn on the eye), irritation, redness, swelling, and hyper sensitivity to light.
This can happen at the beach/pool to just walking down the street. Yes these are short term issues that will go away but as you get older you will see the long term UV-related eye damage. Such as premature aging of the skin (wrinkles and sunspots), pterygium (abnormal growths on the eye and eyelid), Cataracts, Macular degeneration, Cancer of the eye, eyelid and surrounding skin.

Just as we protect our skin with sunblock we must protect our eyes. But how do you protect yours eyes?
It is simple! Just by wearing UV protective eyewear (UVA & UVB) is a great start!
You can even go further by finding the sunglasses that have the following : anti-reflective (cut down on glare this will minimize squinting), impact resistant ( it doesn't crack or break into the eye) , mirror coated, photochromic (great for those who wear eyeglasses), polarized, warparound,  or scratch resistant. You won't find everything in one pair of sunglasses but these are just an added bonus.

The Vision Council was nice enough to send me some cool 100% UV and polarized sunglasses from TUMI. Also Jinx is adding another pair of sunglasses to her collection. They are from a brand called Banz World of the Banz Adventure line. I honestly never heard of this brand before. I feel that these would be perfect for those with infants since it wraps around the head and it has an adjustable Velcro.

There are a variety of sunglasses out there from different colors to different frameworks as well as price.
You don't have to break your budget to protect your eyes. Just remember to look for sunglasses that are UV protective.
I am so appreciative that my mom has influenced me into wearing sunglasses on a daily basis. If it weren't for her I know that I would have a higher chance of having UV related eye problems in the future.
With her influence I am now creating a great habit for my daughter and protecting her as well.

Today(June 27) is National Sunglasses Day!! So share your #SunglassSelfie on The Vision Council's Facebook or twitter (@opticalindustry) and don't forget to use #NationalSunglassesDay

Hard Decision & Turning Three!

Sorry I am a week behind with my vlog. Down below are my vlogs if you want to watch them.
There wasn't really any excuse to be honest. I guess I wanted to be more selfish with my time and spend it with my family. Hence me not vlogging Monday(6/2).

My husband's birthday was on Tuesday. And not only was it his birthday but it was our dating anniversary (10 years!!) and our engagement anniversary (5 years!!). As a gift for my husband, my daughter and I made a DIY Star Wars Art (you can check it out how to make it in the link below) We are not really big on exchanging gifts like we used to. I guess cause we both agree on that the money can be used on the house since its our biggest priority besides our daughter.

It's been challenging with the dogs. This week we had to make a hard decision with one of our dogs. We had to return Carlos (black lab) to the animal shelter. He was just too much for us. He was extremely hyperactive. More than we anticipated. I was a little sad and hope he finds a home that suits him better.

The following week it was my daughter's birthday! So of course I had to start getting the house ready for my family. Every year on her birthday week always falls on the most excessive raining days. Good thing we didn't plan a birthday party like I wanted to.
We didn't do anything major other than a dinner and spending time with family. Even though we didn't have a party for Jinx. I still wanted to make it special. I made a birthday banner, cupcakes and decorated the house with streamers. Jinx was very excited with all the decorations.
I can't believe that she is now 3! It's so crazy to think that she will start school next year. The school hasn't started and I am so nervous! Right now I'm just going to enjoy the time with her.
Also there is a mini Michaels haul in my vlog. When I go to Michaels I can't just get what I need (lol) I always end up finding sales that are hard to pass up!

Want to see what we were up to? Then check down below my vlogs:

FarFaria App Review & Giveaway!!

You can watch my video review here or read it down below

If you can't watch it here then come over to my YouTube Channel: Surprise You Are A Mom!

FarFaria is a reading app that can be used in your android and apple devices. This is designed for children between the ages 2-9. Anything that encourages reading or learning is great on my book.
This is not just any reading app. Some apps just give you a handful of books. This app provides over 600 stories with the monthly subscription. To top that it adds 5 new stories weekly!
Even though these stories are written for kids they also have young authors to add to their growing collection. Like "Emma's Pink and Purple Fluffy Afternoon"
How amazing is that?! Written for kids and by kids!

At times going to the library you don't really know if the books you checked out are for your child's reading level or if it is too advance. One feature that I really like are the reading level badge that is placed on every story cover on the bottom right. This can assures you if your child is on the right track.
There are 3 great features on this app when reading. There's the auto play, read myself and the read-to-me feature. I personally like to use the read-to-me feature. The storyteller's voices are so animated that it makes it fun for my daughter. And after the storyteller is done with the page my daughter can "turn the page". This assures me that she is paying attention.

Another great feature this app has is the offline mode. When you add your favorite stories to 'My Favorites' you can access them without being on the network/online.
With your monthly subscription there are no advertising and no hidden fees. So you can cancel anytime.

I'm happy to announce that I doing my first giveaway!!!
FarFaria was nice enough to supply a 3 month subscription for this giveaway.

Another week passed by. Can you believe we are entering June?! Time has passed by so fast.
This week we were expecting to do our floors for the second floor but our special order didn't arrive on time. Either way I've attempted to be proactive and start moving our things downstairs.
Hope to have this flooring done with soon.
I moved my daughter's kitchen right by my kitchen. And ever since then she has been using it more than before. She loves to play cook and offers us dinner and coffee. It's too adorable.

It's been pretty much normal. Other than Sunday. We adopted two puppies! Well one is a year old it's a male named Carlos. The other one is 2 months old it's a female. It is very unexpected of us.
We won't have them til the following week.
Our local animal shelter is participating on the ASPCA Rachel Ray's Challenge. Basically 50 animal shelters nationwide are competing to see which one has the highest adoption rate to rescue animals. The highest will win money for the animal shelter to continue to save more animals.

How was your week?
Any name suggestions for our new furry babies?
Love to hear from you so comment down below :)

Cetaphil Review

You can watch my review here or read it below
If you can't see it here you can go to my YouTube Channel: Surprise You Are A Mom!

Today I'm sharing my opinion on Cetaphil cleansing cloths. These were given by Influenster to be to reviewed. I wasn't paid for this review the only attachment is to give my honest opinion on the product.
This product is great for those with gentle/sensitive skin. I don't suffer from sensitive skin but the cloths it self as really soft.
Like I mentioned on the video the cloths have these circular ridges. I feel that these ridges are beneficial when it comes to cleaning up dirt or makeup. Also this item is unscented. No floral or sweet smell to linger on your face. There are days that I don't want to smell that so these cloths are a great alternative.
A great bonus is its packaging. It does come with a hard plastic lid. It secures your cloths and doesn't dry them out. I've had other cleansing cloths that rely on the stickiness of the flap and after so many times opening and closing it doesn't properly close. This results with some drier cloths.
If you want to see Cetaphil Cleansing Cloths in action come and check out Montagne Jeunesse Manuka Honey & Jasmine Review

I hope you enjoy this review.
What are your go to cleansing cloths? Do you use a different product to clean your face?
